Activity Name: Just Dessert
Time Required: 5 – 60 minutes (this varies greatly on your choice of dessert).
Ages: All ages
Introduction: This activity is as simple as it sounds. It’s just dessert. Finding time with your kids is one of the most important strategies we can use to build relationships. In this activity you will spend time with your kids choosing, making and eating dessert.
What you need:
- Depends on what dessert you choose
- Choose a dessert with your kids that they’d like to make. Depending on your resources, time constraints, and age–the dessert could be anything from vanilla pudding to ice cream sundaes to flan. Look up recipes online, from a family cookbook, or maybe write a family favorite recipe down.
- Shop for the ingredients
- Follow the recipe to make the dessert
- Enjoy it together
We do not have set questions to ask for this activity. When building relationships it is always important to be genuine. It is important to ask your kids lots of questions though about their lives, what they like, how things are going, etc. The most important key to building a relationship is unconditional love. During all your time with your kids make sure you are communicating the idea that no matter success or failure–you love them and you are proud to be their parent.
