Our Time

Activity Name: Our Time

Time Required: 30 minutes

Ages: All ages

Introduction: This is a great ongoing activity to help build your relationship with your child as well as reinforce the importance of recognizing how important you are in each other’s life. Essentially you will be setting extra time each week for each child to build relationships.

What you need:

  • Time

Instructions: For each of your children you will extend their bedtime by 30 minutes on offsetting days to create special time for just you and that child. For example, if you have three kids (Amy 9, Cory 8, and John 6) that all go to bed at 7:30, then once a week for each you will let them stay up an extra 30 minutes until 8:00 to spend that time with you. Amy might go on Tuesday, Cory might go on Wednesday and John might go on Thursday.

This time is designed to be a special bonding time for just you and the parent(s). You can simply watch a show together, eat a dessert, practice school or sports, or play a board game. This will inherently create a special time where you develop relationships and create memories. Furthermore, it is important to use this time to talk to your child about things that are important to them as well as use the Discuss questions below to reinforce relational resilience.

Discuss:

Do you like Our Time together each week?

What do you like about it?

I like spending this time with because…

Why is it important for us to spend time together?

In our lives we need people close to us that we love and trust so that if things are ever hard you have people that can help you. I will always try to help you. Would you help me if I needed help?
